The Southern Berkshire Jobs  is pleased to invite you to our:

For the first time in American history, four generations are working together.  Kids are working alongside those old enough to be their grandparents and some are supervising them.  Baby Boomers who “Lived to Work” dominated the workforce for decades and are retiring at a much older age.  Now, the largest generation (Y or Millennials) since the Baby Boomers is entering the workforce and will represent 70% of the workforce by the year 2012 (Kelley Services Inc., 2005).  This generation “Works to Live.”  Their motivation, work/life balance, job expectations, stability expectations, work ethics and values are different.  This presents many challenges for employers and according to one survey (Lee Hecht Harrison, Generation Y: They’ve Arrived at Work with a New Attitude), 60% of employers are already experiencing intergenerational tensions at work.

Understanding generational differences should be a key component in any employer’s managing people business strategy.  The challenge will be to harness these differences to create a work environment that allows each generation to contribute, be valued and thrive.

An organization that acknowledges the generation gap and works to close it, will appeal to a wider range of employees for longer periods of time.  This program will generate a discussion of ways to bridge that gap.

This Program will:

  • Define the four generations and key differences
  • Help participants develop an appreciation for the uniqueness of each generation
  • Show why what once motivated, challenged, and satisfied employees in the past will not work in “tomorrows” workplace
  • Explore ways to blend the generations in a way that taps the wealth of talent and abilities of each generation
  • Offer tips for managing, motivating and connecting with the younger X and Y generations
